SUMAC

Sumac is made from a bush plant of the genus of “Rhus”.
All over the middle east there are 35 different type of this plant. We can also find Sumac in some parts of Africa and in North America.

Sumac is coming from the fruits of the tree. Sumac has generally red colour. More dark red means better quality.

Where can we use sumac:

Some species of sumac trees our grown for decorative purposes.
In food we can use it for marinating a salad, meat, on top of Lachmacun or as decor on Hummus and anti salad.

Also, it is common mostly in North America to make drinks from sumac.

Sumac in general has a fruity and a little bit lemony taste. In modern kitchen it is used to replace the heavy acid taste of lemon.

It is used also to give colour, because it contains tannins.
And it is also used for medicinal purposes.
