TURKISH COFFEE

„After drinking Turkish coffee – you will remember its taste for 40 years” – this is what Turkish people say about their coffee.

And what do we know about it? What is a proper way to drink it? Prepare it? Meze restaurant owner, gourmand, basketball player, Turkish that fell in love with Lithuania and simply charismatic and positive Utku, will tell us.
“So, Turkish coffee is tastiest, when it is prepared from coffee beans that were roasted and grounded just before its preparation. Turkish coffee grains should be friable, beans must be grained even more then for espresso coffee.
Well prepared Turkish coffee has thick foam.

Coffee is poured to small cups then it is left for a couple of seconds to rest so that coffee grains can go to the bottom of your cup.
Turkish coffee is a beverage that needs to be drunk slowly to enjoy the flavours and aromas. It is usually served with a cup of cold water , because it refreshes your mouth so that you can feel a better taste of coffee.
Turkish people usually drink coffee after food, with desserts. Turkish coffee has three types:
  • Sade – no sugar added
  • Orta sekerli – medium sweet
  • Cok sekerli – a lot of sugar
Coffee takes an important role in Turkish people life; it also helps to take various important decisions.
One of them is when a guy with family goes to ask for a girl’s hand. When the family arrives, future wife should make coffee for everybody (most importantly, with a thick foam, as it shows, that she will be a good household), only when coffee is served, father of a guy starts talking about new family planning.
